A review paper published this month in the Canadian Journal of Psychiatry that synthesizes the finding of five major studies finds gambling is a dynamic phenomenon, with addicts falling in and out of problem gambling. Lead author Debi LaPlante, a psychiatry instructor at the Harvard Medical School, says that people move in and out of stages of worsening and improving health over time a lot more than what had been initially anticipated. Canadian experts say the study offers little by way of new information.
