The amount of betting in Las Vegas casinos increased by 22 per cent on July 7.  July 7 of 2007 can be represented as 07/07/07, and with seven being a lucky number in many cultures, gamblers felt they could beat the odds.  Compared with the same weekend in 2006, gambling increased 47 per cent.  The only day gambling exceeded the numbers on July 7 was New Year’s Eve – traditionally, the busiest gambling day of the year.
